Mini San Luis Obispo Getaway Part 3 of 5

Despite a bit of a time crunch to get to our hotel in San Luis Obispo, we took up the tip from Kevin of Bella Luna Winery. We’re so glad we did.

Because we greatly enjoyed Happy Acres Family Farm, Templeton – a working goat dairy.

Very cool products for sale. Wifey was quite intrigued with the lotions and soaps.

Hello to you.

Hi, kids.

Hi.

We had a great time getting close and personal with the super friendly farm animals. We’ll certainly be back to visit Happy Acres.

Bye, everyone.

Finally, our next stop was our hotel room, where we could chill out.

At last.

It sure seems like every minute was jam packed this first day of our mini getaway, but looking back, the entire day was in fact very pleasant and restful – a great sign for the remaining weekend.

Sweet Stuff

I’ve always had and continue to have such a sweet tooth. Interestingly, I find myself liking super sweet stuff less and less these days. Still, I have to be quite mindful not to go overboard when there are sweets around. That said, the following pics represent some of the sweeter things that I’ve consumed in the past several months.

First up – sweet red bean paste bun.

Very sweet but yummy.

Too sweet for wifey’s tastes. But I grew eating this super sweet treat and have always liked it.

Sweet bean paste filling.

Next up – Something mysteriously labeled worm and sweet red bean paste bread.

Not that sweet but still yummy.

Wifey bought some after trying samples. Not that sweet, but it’s really good combined with the chewy texture on the inside. We’re sure that there were no worms in this bread.

Definitely hits the sweet spot.

It’s been quite some time since I’ve had pearl drinks. It’s great that they are still a number of pearl drink places around us. For me, it’s all about the honeydew regular milk tea with tapioca balls.

I haven’t been drinking much soda lately but couldn’t pass up the chance to try out the organic Blue Sky sodas that we spotted at Costco. Compared to the tons of other soda that I drank growing up and for most of my adulthood, these were excellent. I liked the Orange Divine the best, followed by Black Cherry Cherish, New Century Cola, and Root Beer Encore.

Soda.

Speaking of Orange Divine, can’t beat the real thing.

Oranges

Very thankful that my parents have that orange tree of theirs.

Fresh orange juice.

Last but not least – frozen yogurt.

Frozen yogurt.

I didn’t like frozen yogurt when I first tasted it many years ago. But that quickly changed.

Mango.

What’s great about frozen yogurt is that that’s one sweet item that wifey, the toddler, and I all greatly enjoy.

Always Grateful,

~Andy, who’ll try not to eat too much Easter candy today.

Loving Me Some Hachiya Persimmons

I’ve had the following pics now for over a month. A co-worker brought in some Hachiya persimmons from her tree, and I grabbed a couple. It had been such a long time since I had eaten some. Growing up, my parents would buy them and just let them sit on the window sill for however long it took for them to get nice and mushy. I couldn’t wait.

There were two of them, and they were sweet and delicious. I’m positive that the sight of my utterly devouring them was not a pretty one. Good thing no one was looking.

Butternut Squash Fries and Toddler’s First Purchase

Wifey recently made some fries out of butternut squash.

With some olive oil, salt, and pepper, the sliced butternut squash was put into the oven. Wifey mentioned that the final product was a bit on the soggy side, but that didn’t matter at all as the butternut squash fries were delicious.

The toddler recently made his first purchase practically all by himself. We went to one of the nearby malls. While wifey visited a particular store, the toddler and I walked around the mall. The toddler eventually spotted a Disney store. He checked out a lot of the merchandise, but there were a couple that stood out. He grabbed them, and I agreed that we should get them. We walked up to the register, and the clerk asked the toddler if he wanted to hold the bag, to which the toddler responsed, “Yes.” I had the toddler pay the clerk for the toys, and then the clerk placed the two toys into the toddler’s bag. We then walked over to where wifey was to show her the purchases.

We had taken a stroller with us, but the toddler did not need it at all. I’m thinking that the stroller days might be over, if not now then very, very soon.

The toddler has assisted in purchasing items before (always in a shopping cart or stroller), but this was the first time that he walked into a store, selected items, and took them to the register. Seeing him in action was very cool. We’ll see if I always feel this way about his wanting to buy things. :)

Always Grateful,

~Hubby (aka Daddy)

Kale Chips

Wifey made some awesome kale chips!

Kale Chips2

Wifey said that next time she makes kale chips, she will leave them in the oven longer so that more of the pieces of kale will be crispy. All I know is that between wifey, the toddler, and I, these kale chips disappeared extremely quickly.
