2nd Annual German Holiday Market in Downtown Mountain View
The 2nd annual German Holiday Market, presented by the German International School of Silicon Valley (GISSV), takes place Sat., Dec. 13 from 11am-9pm, when Mountain View’s Civic Center Plaza (500 Castro St.) will be transformed into an open-air Weihnachtsmarkt. And I’m fairly certain that event organizers are extremely thankful for the expected respite from the rain this weekend.
The turnout for last year’s inaugural event surpassed expectations, and event organizers have worked diligently on space issues, including procuring permission to block off part of adjacent Mercy St.
I received word earlier today that the lineup of Germans brews includes Weltenberger Pilz and the well-regarded Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel. Also available will be traditional, German Glühwein (mulled wine).
Baked items include Lebkuchen (gingerbread), pretzels and apple strudel from Wolfgang’s Bavarian Pretzels, traditional cakes from KuchenKULTUR and more.
The Holiday Market also offers holiday shopping opportunities with unique handmade gifts from local artisans. There will be live entertainment on stage throughout the day and evening, as well as many family-friendly activities such as ice skating, a petting zoo and train rides. Admission to this community event is free. Visit the German Holiday Market Facebook page for more event details, including the complete entertainment schedule.
Proceeds benefit GISSV’s high-quality bilingual Preschool – Grade 12 programs at their three Bay Area campuses.
