Scenes from Beer Mule Bottle Shop + Pour House 1-Year Anniversary Celebration
Beer Mule Bottle Shop + Pour House in Watsonville (45 Aviation Way) celebrated its one-year anniversary this past Saturday.
Beer Mule is located across the street from the Watsonville Municipal Airport. An aircraft hangar previously occupied the space.
We arrived shortly after noon. It was a relatively quick and easy drive from San Jose.
Beer Mule has forty taps.
In addition to beer, the taps include ciders, non-alcoholic kombucha, coffee and root beer.
We ordered up a flight of:
- Corralitos American Blonde Ale
- Shanty Shack Razzmanian Devil Kettle Sour with Gizdich Raspberries
- Moonraker Juice Nukem Hazy Double IPA
- Stem Ciders Rose Cider
- Hard Frescos Guava Citrico
Plus a glass of Whalebird Kombucha Strawberry Damiana.
Heading up the tasty eats at the anniversary celebration was Chef Colby M. Reade.
Herb Marinated Grilled Chicken Sandwich with creamy coleslaw, grilled onions & house pickles.
Nopales Tostada with chili lime slaw, red chili sauce, avocado relish & sour cream.
Buttermilk Cornbread with chipotle honey butter and Brown Sugar Bacon Beans.
Grilled Tri Tip Sandwich with cilantro queso fresco, pickled red onions & tomato jam.
Upside-Down Strawberry Cheesecake Parfait.
A quick selfie.
Chef Colby with the four owners of Beer Mule: Craig Renfroe, Olive Moredock, Kym DeWitt and Shawd DeWitt.
Craig, Olive, Kym and Shawd also run the popular and well-regarded Beer Thirty Bottle Shop & Pour House in Soquel (2504 S. Main St.), which they opened in March 2014. They had just hosted a sixth anniversary celebration at Beer Thirty the prior day.
It’s an especially hectic time for the owners as they prepare to open a third spot this June, a beer garden at the old Wienerschnietzel location in Santa Cruz (800 Soquel Ave.). Look for the same family friendly – and dog friendly – vibes familiar to Beer Thirty and Beer Mule fans at this new spot as well.
The owners recently teamed up with Chef Colby, and he’ll oversee the kitchen buildouts and the food options at Beer Mule and the new location.
Second flight:
- The Bruery Ruekeller: Helles
- Slice Kachow Hazy IPA
- Fruition Moto Pale Ale
- Twenty Five Island Ninja Milkshake IPA
- Abita Root Beer
Moksa Mostra 6th Sticky Bun-Inspired Imperial Stout with walnuts, cinnamon, vanilla and coffee.
Birthday Barbecue Combo Feast.
It was a pleasure meeting Craig, Olive, Kym and Shawd, and it’s always a treat to catch up with Chef Colby.
We left before the arrival of the live band and ice cream goodies, but we did stay much longer than originally planned thanks to the wonderful drinks and food, and the fun, friendly and warm atmosphere.
We’ll certainly be back sooner than later.
Congrats, Beer Mule, on your one-year anniversary!
Cheers! Prost! Gunbae!
