Strike Brewing Company Wins Gold at 2018 World Beer Cup for Big Wall Imperial Stout

Congratulations are in order to local San Jose brewery Strike Brewing Company.

Announced just a short while ago this evening, Strike Brewing won the top prize in the Export Stout category at this year’s World Beer Cup, taking him gold for their Big Wall Imperial Stout.

The World Beer Cup is widely acknowledged as the world’s most prestigious beer competition.

When I reached out to several of the Strike folks, they were naturally elated.

Head brewer Ryan Bridge shared his initial reactions, which were echoed by co-founders Jenny Lewis (CEO) and Drew Ehrlich (brewmaster):

“We’re in shock and obviously super excited! Big Wall is one of our original recipes. I’m really proud of the whole Strike team!”

Drew indicated that he would be celebrating the win later in the evening by enjoying a bottle of Big Wall that had been sitting in the back of his fridge; he first had to get his kids to bed.

Big Wall Imperial Stout is a smooth-drinking big beer (9% ABV) with coffee and roasty notes.

It’s a winter seasonal release beer and no longer on tap. But there are still bottles available at the Strike Taproom.

Based on tonight’s big news, I have a strong feeling that you’ll be able to find Big Wall on tap and in bottles well before the next winter season.

Congrats again to the Strike team!

Cheers! Prost! Gunbae!
