Scenes from 2019 Unruly Oktoberfest at Hotel Valencia Santana Row

Andrea and I recently attended the ‘Unruly Oktoberfest’ celebration at Hotel Valencia in Santana Row.

The annual event – this was their second year – included delicious bites from Oveja Negra, the restaurant located within Hotel Valencia and known to many for their ‘unruly tapas.’

Hotel Valencia Santana Row Executive Chef Mike Behan led a culinary team whose Unruly Oktoberfest offerings were prepared to tasty perfection.

Beer tasting was also included and featured local San Jose breweries Santa Clara Valley Brewing, Clandestine Brewing, Hapa’s Brewing Company and Camino Brewing Company, along with Original Pattern Brewing Company out of Oakland.

The folks doing the pouring worked at their respective breweries and were able to answer any questions about their brewery and beers, an element that elevates any beer-related event.

Santa Clara Valley Brewing assistant brewer Bill Leslie and Santa Cruz sales representative Matt Staggs were on hand to pour from cans of Electric Tower IPA, Dry Creek Blonde Ale, Alviso Mills Hefeweizen and their limited release Guavalupe Gose-Style Ale with Guava.

Clandestine Brewing’s Adrian Kalaveshi and Liz Scandizzo poured Undercover Berliner Weisse with Ollallieberries and Codename: VW, a Helles Weizenbock.

Original Pattern’s Virginia Vaughn poured Oktoberfest Vienna Lager and Out of Time Hazy IPA.

Luke of Hapa’s Brewing Company offered up Hungry Dog West Coast IPA and Amish Rifle Red Ale.

Camino Brewing Company had Cafe con Leche Coffee Milk Stout and Kloisterschenken Dunkelweizen.

The food was excellent, and it was great to hear the varied responses as to which beers were particular favorites from a bunch of those in attendance.

Add to the mix the friendly group of guests, a stellar setting and an inviting and festive atmosphere, and you might get a sense of why we truly enjoyed Unruly Oktoberfest.

We can’t wait for next year’s Unruly Oktoberfest. It’ll certainly be one of those special can’t-miss events for us.

Cheers! Prost! Gunbae!
