Scenes from State of Mind Public House and Pizzeria, Sep. 2021 (Plus Scenes from Prior Visits)
It was quite a treat to visit State of Mind Public House & Pizzeria last month.
Our drinks: Berryessa Brewing Fast Pass to Helles (Helles Lager) and root beer from Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company.
Our food…
Traditional Buffalo Wings:
Jalapeño Balls – handmade spin on a jalapeño popper served with ranch:
Elotero pizza – evoo, garlic, mozz, chorizo, jalapeño, corn ricotta, micro cilantro, lime:
Every bite was delicious, delicious, delicious. Leading to a state of bliss, if you will.
State of Mind was the last restaurant we dined at back in March 2020 before the shutdowns.
Here are some belated pictures from that visit:
‘A Shortcut to Mushrooms’ pizza – organic sauce, mixed mushrooms, di stefano burrata, pine nuts, parsley, lemon salt plus a pour of Ghost Town Barrel Aged Old Trepanner Barleywine:
Had a quick hello with State of Mind co-owner Amy Betz Alcantar:
A pour of New World Ales Eager Eagle Double Dry Hopped Hazy American IPA:
Pizza-making awards galore:
Below are additional, belated photos from a couple of other visits just before the March visit:
Humble Sea Brewing Company Mankini Lines Foggy Double IPA:
Burrata – di stefano burrata, pomegranate, mint, pistachio, evoo, and pomegranate syrup with sourdough:
Winterland salad – greens, kohlrabi, pomegranate, ricotta salata, pistachio with citrus dressing:
Wings:
State of Mind is actually close by to where I work – lucky me, I know.
Humble Sea Brewing Humble Buddies New England IPA with Insomniac pizza – mozz, organic sauce, pepperoni, housemade s.o.m. sausage:
Had a great conversation with co-owner Andrew Smith.
Original Pattern Brewing Berrya 51 Sour:
Stone Brewing Company Jägermeister Arrogant Bastard Ale:
And co-owner Lars Smith told me then that they had their eyes set on opening a second location, likely focusing on a smaller take-out type of venue. He mentioned possibly in Menlo Park or the South Bay.
Well, fast forward to the present…
Their second location – State of Mind Slice House in Palo Alto (3850 El Camino Real) – opened earlier this year in late January. Palo Alto has a special meaning for Lars and Andrew as that’s where they grew up.
And I believe I saw an Instagram Story this past week simply indicating that a third location for State of Mind is in the works without any further details for now.
Well, one detail I’m sure of regarding State of Mind is that it’s our current favorite restaurant, and I can’t wait to go back.
Cheers! Prost! Gunbae!
