Almanac Beer Company Launches Day of Action Set for April 17

Earlier this year, Alameda’s Almanac Beer Company announced a Day of Action – Saturday, April 17 – to draw attention to the increase in anti-Asian racism and attacks against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the country.

According to their website, Day of Action seeks “to unite the Bay Area business community in denouncing anti-Asian racism and to raise funds for local nonprofits that support our AAPI communities.”

Damian Fagan, founder and CEO of Almanac, shares:

“Almanac stands for acceptance or we stand for nothing at all. We love, stand with, and embrace our Asian American & Pacific Islander friends, family, team members, and community. In light of the surge in anti-Asian racism, and in acknowledgment of generation upon generation of AAPI oppression in this country, we pledge to be an active voice against this unacceptable hatred, and strive to be a positive force for sustainable change in our local Bay Area community and beyond. We have zero tolerance for bigotry. Everyone is welcome at Almanac. April 17th is just one step, but we hope by uniting with other businesses across the area, we can amplify our collective impact.”

All businesses are encouraged to also take the pledge. Suggested actions on April 17 include donating a portion of profits from the day to a nonprofit, hosting relevant anti-racism trainings for team members, matching donations and/or hosting a pop-up – or otherwise – promoting an AAPI owned-business.

For their part, Almanac will donate 20% of sales from the day to AAPI Women Lead and host three pop-ups from Lunaria Flower Farm, Kristina Cho, and Thuy’s Treats.

Visit the Day of Action website for additional information, including a list of participating businesses spanning across drink, food and more.
